We got a new puppy in October named Shadow. He’s one of the nicest, best-tempered golden retrievers you’ll ever meet.
The other day I decided to let him hang out on our deck for a while. The weather was nice, the sun was shining and the temperatures were warm. He seemed to enjoy being outdoors.
After a while, I came back to check on Shadow. It had been a while and I wanted to make sure he was still enjoying his sun bathing.
I was shocked by what I found.
There was Shadow lying peacefully on the deck. That wasn’t the surprise. The surprise was that he was lying next to an open gate.
That’s right. I had forgotten to shut the gate on the deck.
Shadow was only steps away from freedom, yet he had no idea the open gate led to freedom. Instead, he stayed confined on the deck.
I wonder if we aren’t like Shadow. We miss the wide open gate. The path to freedom has been provided for us but we continue to bask in our captivity!
This is the week to break free!
In Galatians 5, Paul writes, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.”
Did you catch that? Jesus set us free! The only reason we continue to live in captivity, slavery, bondage, guilt, doubt, fear, worry, frustration, and sin, is if we don’t accept the freedom he died to give.
Will you accept that freedom this week?
